Casual picture of Trevor HarrisonTrevor Harrison LLB, MCIArb practises as a maritime arbitrator and commercial mediator. He is a Full Member of the LMAA (London Maritime Arbitrators Association) and a Member of the Panel of Arbitrators of the SCMA (Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration).

Recent career experience has included acting as the part-time Chief Executive of the International Bunker Industry Association and, before that, as Head of Legal at the Tramp Group of Companies, including leading marine and aviation fuel supplier Tramp Oil & Marine, now part of World Fuels Services Corporation, the largest supplier of marine and aviation fuels in the world.

He began his professional career at the common law bar before moving into commerce and shipping to work for a P&I club and then a firm of marine consultants. 30 years ago he joined Tramp as head of legal and whilst there developed his particular expertise in all matters relating to the legal and commercial aspects of the marine fuel supply industry including procurement, supply, processes and procedures and claims.

Arbitration and mediation experience includes charterparty disputes, bunker disputes and GA and piracy cases; he is particularly interested in technical problems. Trevor has many years’ experience of drafting and negotiating contracts, particularly standard trading terms, and making and defending a wide range of maritime claims, including instigating arrest proceedings in many different jurisdictions.

As well as arbitrating and mediating, Trevor speaks regularly on maritime matters and dispute resolution. His first book, Legal Issues in Bunkering, was published in 2011 by Petrospot. He also wrote the module on the Sale and Purchase of Bunkers for the Lloyd’s Maritime Academy (LMA) Certificate in Practical Bunker Management and is Course Director for the LMA Certificate in Marine Claims. Recent masterclasses in Singapore and Hong Kong have covered arbitration, mediation, bunker disputes and marine claims.

Away from the sea and the law, his interests include choral singing, community mediation and horse riding. He is also closely involved with the preserved steam railway next to his house in Sussex where he lives with his very tolerant wife, Shirley.
