Casual picture of Trevor HarrisonTrevor Harrison LLB, MCIArb practises as a commercial mediator, arbitrator and freelance legal consultant. Until recently he was Legal Advisor to the Tramp Group of Companies including leading marine and aviation fuel supplier Tramp Oil & Marine, now part of World Fuels Services Corporation, the largest supplier of marine and aviation fuels in the world.

After practising at the common law bar he moved into commerce and shipping to work for a P&I club and then a firm of marine consultants. Over 20 years ago he joined Tramp as head of legal and whilst there developed his particular legal expertise in all matters relating to the marine and aviation fuel supply industries including procurement, supply, processes and procedures and claims.

By training and inclination, Trevor is a dispute resolution specialist and has had plenty of experience of going 15 rounds with opponents. But, having experienced mediation as a party a few years ago, he was sufficiently impressed by the process to train as a mediator himself and is now on a number of commercial mediator panels including CEDR, ACI and the Specialist Mediators Group, dealing principally with disputes involving shipping, international trade, information technology, construction and, of course, marine and aviation fuels.

He led the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) working group that was responsible for the IBIA Rapid Resolution Scheme launched in 2005 that offers fixed-price mediation and arbitration for small and medium sized bunker (marine fuel) disputes. Trevor has also led and participated in workshops, seminars and conferences promoting mediation and arbitration.

I have been running a short survey on the use of mediation in maritime dispute resolution. If you would like to know when the results are available, please click the link on the right.
